Click the play button below to hear Shalise Manza Young's comments, recorded this morning. The topics: the special teams lapses that led to two Philadelphia touchdowns Friday night, Stephen Gostkowski's impressive exhibition performance, the chances of Tom Brady playing Thursday against the Giants, and the Patriots' biggest preseason loss due to injury.
Here's what Shalise had to say on whether Brady will start Thursday:
"There's not really a point [to having Brady play]. Would it be nice for him to get in there and see a few things at game speed? Sure. But this isn't Matt Cassel that we're talking about, and we need to get him as many snaps as possible and get his confidence up. ... I think we'll see more Matt Cassel, we'll definitely see Kevin O'Connell this week, after we didn't see him at all last week, but I would be really surprised if we saw Tom Brady."
And on the Patriots' biggest injury loss:
"I do think the Tank Williams injury is ... a bad injury for them. I think they had a very specific role for him, and I think he was really starting to pick it up well in the hybrid kind of big nickel role, where he would line up as a linebacker in certain situations. I think he was doing a really good job of that. Everybody thought they picked up John Lynch to fill that role, but we have yet to see Lynch up closer to the line; he's only been back at safety so far. Whether or not he has the legs to make it through the entire season at [36, soon to be 37] years old, covering that much ground, remains to be seen."
