pierce0804.jpgPolice in Las Vegas handcuffed Celtics captain Paul Pierce after stopping Pierce around 3 in the morning Sunday for driving erratically on the Strip, according to a story today in the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Bill Cassell, public information officer for the Metropolitan Police Department, told the newspaper he did not know why the NBA Finals MVP was handcuffed, but he said it often happens when someone is "loudly hostile," and noted that Pierce (6 feet 7 inches, 235 pounds) is a "big guy."

Pierce calmed down and the handcuffs were removed after 15 minutes, Cassell said. A Breathalyzer showed Pierce was not legally intoxicated, and after field sobriety tests, Pierce was allowed to go without receiving a citation.
