Cranston's Michael Parkhurst played the entire 90 minutes of the United States Olympic team's 1-0 victory over Japan today in Beijing. Parkhurst was the starting center back for the U.S. team in the win, which was very important in terms of advancing past its first-round group. The United States must still face the tough teams from the Netherlands and Nigeria in the first round.

Here's what Parkhurst said about playing with his defensive teammates:

"So far, so good. They are easy to play with. They makes life easy for me, and I try to do the same for them. The communication is getting better. We still need to get a little bit better but ... It was tough to communicate when everyone was so tired in the second half, but right now we're doing pretty well with the partnership with myself and Maurice Edu."

"We learned from the women [the U.S. women's soccer team lost its opening game to Norway] yesterday that we needed to come out and make sure that we were secure defensively. We knew that we would get a goal eventually. We expect to get at least one goal every game and that the defense can hold up our end of things."
