cormier0804.jpgRheal Cormier, the left-handed relief pitcher who had two stints with the Red Sox, has not pitched in the big leagues since May 2007, when the Cincinnati Reds released him. But Cormier isn't quite done with baseball -- he is hoping to have one more short run of success when he plays for Team Canada in the Beijing Olympics. The Canadian Press reports that it will be the second Olympic trip for the 41-year-old Cormier, who played for the Canadian team in Seoul, South Korea, in 1988.

Cormier, whose attempt to get back to the majors last season ended because of persistent shoulder pain, has been preparing for the Olympics by playing for the same senior baseball league team he played for in the 1980s.

Cormier appeared in 172 games for the Red Sox in 1995, 1999 and 2000. He started 12 games for the 1995 American League East champions. He also played for the Cardinals, the Expos, the Phillies and the Reds.
