beisel080908a.JPGElizabeth Beisel said nerves weren't a problem during her preliminary race in the 400 individual medley (right), and it showed: The 15-year-old Saunderstown native posted the fastest time in the qualifying heats (4:34.55) as she advanced to the gold-medal race.

But now that she's on the verge of winning an Olympic medal -- and perhaps even a gold -- well, that's a little different.

"I do get a little bit jittery thinking about it, it's a little nerve-wracking, being the youngest [member of the U.S. Olympic swim team]," Beisel said after the preliminary heats, which were completed Saturday night in Beijing (Saturday morning local time). "Not in the preliminaries. But I'm sure [in the medal race], I'll be a little on edge."

The race will be held at 10:42 a.m. Sunday Beijing time, which is 10:42 p.m. Saturday local time. It will be televised on NBC.
