| Furious Andrade blames judges for Olympic defeat »
Providence's world welterweight champion, Demetrius Andrade, lost a close, furiously fought decision this morning to South Korean boxer Jungjoo Kim, ending Andrade's quest for a medal in his first Olympic Games. Kim now advances to the semifinal round. Kim scored one more point than Andrade in both the first and the third rounds, for a total 11-9 advantage; the second and fourth rounds were even. Heavyweight Deontay Wilder is the only American boxer left in the Games. Should Wilder fall later this morning to Morocco's Mohammed Arjaoui, these will be the first Olympic Games that the United States has competed in and failed to win a medal in boxing. 8 CommentsLeave a comment |

Olympic boxing is a JOKE... The scoring is ridiculous. It essentially turns boxing into fencing. Fighters get no credit for aggression, body punching, or controlling the action. Demetrius is EASILY the best professional prospect to compete in these games and he will walk away empty handed... It is a downright shame.

Agreed. I've seen a number of the fights and the punches that connect (not necessarily to the body) seem to go unscored almost as much as they count them. Plus there's also an absurd amount of holding that should be cut out.

It was a close fight and the system being used misses a lot of punches that should count. HOWEVER I as an american am ashamed he didn't shake hands and let the ref raise the korean's hand in victory. Prematurely leaving the ring after the loss was shameful and immature. Our relations with the youth of Korea are allready strained enough and this was a terrible mistake. I am glad this youth didn't progress further, he was obviously not at the olympics to represent his country.

Olympic boxing is in big trouble. AIBA (International Amateur Boxing Assoc.)needs to be completely reorganized. The International Olympic Committee should pull their charter until they can prove that their officals are not on the take or doing anything that is not acceptable by standards of "Ethics". i.e. accepting free Rolex's and a whole list of other goodies from countries that want to win their favor.
Demetrius will go on to be a world champion and make millions and those same officials who shamelessly robbed him of his dream will go back to their home countries and be "No Bodies" with nothing more than bragging rights about being at the Olympics.
HERES TO YOU BOO BOO!
