The undermanned American men's gymnastics team, which won an unexpected bronze medal last night local time, has a local connection . . . sort of.
Justin Spring (above) -- who actually gave the U.S. the momentary lead with a 15.850 on the parallel bars -- is the son of astronaut Woody Spring, who grew up in Harmony and still has two brothers and a sister in Rhode Island. Justin had to overcome a string of injuries to make the Olympic team; read about it here on voanews.com. He even has his own official Web site, though it says it hasn't been updated since last December. He was born in Houston and grew up in Fairfax, Va., according to wikipedia.
