GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Sara White, the widow of Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive end Reggie White, spoke of her own illness at a luncheon held by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Wisconsin Chapter. Diagnosed with the disease in 2003, she said she wanted to turn her challenges into something positive by speaking to others who are dealing with the same condition, which affects the central nervous system and can lead to symptoms such as loss of muscle coordination, strength and sensation. "A lot of people treat MS like it's leprosy and in fact we don't have a choice," she said. "I speak out about MS because there are so many people that don't know ... it's OK to tell people you have MS." More than 200 people attended the luncheon at Lambeau Field, where her husband starred for the Green Bay Packers. He died at the age of 43 in December 2004. |
