One day after news surfaced of his arrest on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, the Patriots today released defensive back Willie Andrews (left).

The team had no comment on the reasons for the release.

The Pats also announced the signing of sixth-round draft choice Bo Ruud, 23, the 197th player selected. The 6-foot-3-inch, 235-pound linebacker was a three-year starter at Nebraska. He started 33 of 46 games and finished his career with 216 total tackles, including 4.5 sacks. Ruud was a two-time, second-team All-Big 12 selection and a four-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, earning his bachelor's degree in December of 2007. Last year, Ruud started each of the 10 games in which he appeared at strong-side linebacker and finished fifth on the team with 54 tackles.
