boggs0716.jpgOne final note on the All-Star pregame ceremonies at Yankee Stadium. It's been remarked upon elsewhere, I'm sure, but for all the current Red Sox featured in the game, it was amazing that not a single Red Sox hat could be found among all the retired All-Stars who took the field at their respective positions for the announcement of the starting lineups.

There was no Carl Yastrzemski or Carlton Fisk (Fisk might have worn his White Sox cap anyway), Dick Williams wore an Oakland cap, and Wade Boggs, standing at third, elected to wear a Yankees cap rather than the cap of the team where he spent his most productive seasons. It's not like he even had to choose, either: Dave Winfield had both Yankees and Padres caps, while Gary Carter had both Expos and Mets caps.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but if Boggs had spent most of his career playing for, say, the Orioles before moving to New York, I bet he would have had the Baltimore cap at least in hand along with his Yankee cap.
