One thing that sports has over politics: While you can rarely prove that one political side or another is actually correct on an issue, you can always prove which sports team is better (at least on any given night) by having them meet on the field. And last night, the Republicans were just a little bit better than the Democrats.
The Grand Old Party rallied for three runs in the final inning -- the winning run came thanks to a two-run throwing error by that notorious fielding liability, Rep. Chris Murphy of Connecticut -- to win the 47th annual Congressional Baseball Game, 11-10. According to this game account on the Web site of the New Republic magazine (yes, there's a liberal bias there), the game included many popups, errors, "seeing-eye singles" and infield hits -- also a failed, illegal hidden-ball trick by the Democratic team.
The Republicans have not lost to the Democrats since 2000. By my count, and assuming that no games were lost due to player strikes, the Republicans have won eight straight games now.
