Terry Francona, a guest on WEEI's Dale and Holley show (although Dale is off), said today that David Ortiz may play one additional game with the PawSox at McCoy Stadium. The plan for the Red Sox had been to play Ortiz at McCoy from Thursday to Saturday, against the Toledo Mud Hens, and then to take Sunday off before heading up to Portland for three more rehab games with the Sea Dogs. Ortiz, however, has expressed a desire to play through the weekend, and Francona said today that it may happen. The PawSox are scheduled to conclude their series against Toledo at 1 p.m. Sunday. If all goes as scheduled, Ortiz (wrist) could make his first appearance for the Red Sox since May 31 when the Sox host the Yankees on Friday, July 25. |
