With Jason Bay apparently gone, SI.com and other media outlets report that the Red Sox are now in talks with the Los Angeles Dodgers about trading Manny Ramirez. Jon Heyman says the Red Sox are believed to be most interested in young outfielder Matt Kemp, while the Dodgers have offered another promising outfielder, Andre Ethier. But then another source indicates that the Dodgers are currently offering prospects other than Kemp and Ethier, which probably would not bode well for a deal getting done.
In other news, the Boston Herald is reporting that the Red Sox will not trade Brandon Moss to get relief pitcher Ron Mahay of the Royals, a deal that Sean McAdam reported today had been proposed by Kansas City, unless they can deal Manny. The Herald says that Moss would be needed as an insurance policy for Ramirez in case he remains on the team and becomes injured, or at least deems himself unable to play.
