Colin A. Sullivan, a senior associate athletics director at Marist College, has been named director of athletics, intramurals and recreation at Salve Regina University, where he will oversee 18 varsity teams, club sports, intramurals and recreation activities.

Sullivan arrives at Salve Regina following 11 years at Marist as an administrator of 23 Division I intercollegiate athletic programs, overseeing all business operations, in addition to intramural and recreation duties, facility operations and Marist's strength and conditioning efforts. Prior to that, Sullivan served as associate athletics director for external affairs, overseeing the marketing and promotions efforts of the department as well as the office of sports information.

During a 14-month departure from the college, Sullivan served as the chief operating officer of the Hoop Group, the largest basketball camp organization in the world, based in Shrewsbury, New Jersey.

"Colin Sullivan was highly regarded by the search committee and continued to be a top choice following his campus visit which included meetings with senior administrators, athletic administrators and coaches, student-athletes and the President of the university," said John Rok, vice president for student life. "His background in athletics administration, experience and demonstrated record of accomplishment will provide the athletics program at Salve Regina University with proven leadership both within the university community as well as within The Commonwealth Coast Conference and region. I welcome Colin and his family to Salve Regina and to Newport - and I look forward to working with Colin and our athletic department staff as he helps us write the next chapter in the history of Salve Regina University athletics."

Prior to serving as associate athletic director at Marist from August 1995 to January 2000, Sullivan was the assistant director of both the Pocono and Eastern Invitational basketball camps and clinics. He also worked with Marist's current director of athletics, Tim Murray, at Iona College as the assistant coach of track and cross country.

Sullivan graduated from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia in 1991 where he was a three-time NCAA Division III qualifier in cross country. He also received all-conference honors four times each in cross country and track. In 1994, Sullivan received his M.B.A. from Iona College.

"Like Marist, Salve Regina understands the role that athletics plays in the development of the whole student," says Sullivan. "I like how my position reports to student life at Salve Regina - similarly, it is student affairs at Marist - as I am a big believer in involving others in the process. As a Division III athlete, I chose my institution because I knew any number of circumstances could prevent me from competing, but I would always have the educational component."

While at Marist, Sullivan served on a number of on-campus committees including the Labor Management Group, integrated marketing and campus web committees. Externally, Sullivan served as a member of the NCAA pool of peer reviewers. Additionally, Sullivan served as the tournament director for the Marist-hosted MAAC Championships of men's lacrosse and baseball and served on the MAAC tennis championship committee.
