From Johnette Howard, in Newsday: If they can keep this up for the next 12 games, the streaking Yankees will have their first chance this season to make Boston sweat, to make Boston notice them more in the AL East race and forget about that ugly little blood feud the Red Sox have brewing with upstart Tampa Bay. Boston-Tampa has some heat - even some haymakers - but none of the history that the Yankees-Red Sox will stir up when they meet again for four games during the Fourth of July weekend at the Stadium. By then, if the Yankees can fatten up against the likes of Cincinnati and Pittsburgh, the Mets and Texas while Boston is facing a tougher schedule against St. Louis and division-leading Arizona before Tampa Bay, the Yankees could shave two or three games off Boston's lead by the time they meet. They could be playing Boston for first place when the Red Sox roll into town for the holiday weekend. Click here to continue reading. |
