BOSTON (AP) - Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson figured he might be seeing Kevin Garnett in the NBA finals - in purple and gold. The Lakers pushed to acquire Garnett last summer when the Timberwolves put the perennial All-Star on the trading blocks. But Garnett went to Boston instead, and he helped the Celtics reach the finals for the first time since 1987. The Lakers made it anyway. Jackson said the Lakers gave "great chase" to Garnett, putting pressure on Minnesota basketball boss Kevin McHale. Jackson thought they had the inside track before McHale - a former Celtic - sent Garnett to Boston instead. |
