One-hitter by Kacz earns Quakers return trip to D2 softball finals
In Division II softball playoff action tonight at Rhode Island College, 2007 state runner-up Moses Brown earned a return trip to the finals by defeating defending champion Barrington, 5-0, in the winners’-bracket final.
Moses Brown’s Liz Kacz turned in another solid performance, tossing a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks.
“Actually when we came in here we were really nervous knowing that they had beat us last time,” said the sophomore right-hander, who had a no-hitter going into the seventh before Nicole D’Angelo reached on an infield single. “But that gave us more energy to want to beat them. . . . My catcher, Kate Sullivan, we work really good together. She calms me down because I was really nervous before the game.”
Sullivan also contributed to Moses Brown’s win with her two-run triple in the fifth. Senior right fielder Emily Granoff had a big night at the plate, as well, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored.
