PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Toronto Blue Jays have fired manager John Gibbons and replaced him with former manager Cito Gaston.

The Blue Jays are 35-39 and in last place in the AL East. Toronto has lost 12 of its last 16 games to fall 101/2 games behind the first-place Boston Red Sox.

Gibbons had been manager since 2004.

The Jays also fired three of Gibbons' coaches - Marty Pevey, Ernie Whitt and Gary Denbo.
