Apparently, the 49ers really wanted Joe Staley -- they gave New England their fourth-round pick tomorrow (110th overall) PLUS their first-round pick next year.
With the acquisitions San Francisco has made this offseason as well as the development of quarterback Alex Smith and the production of running back Frank Gore -- plus the weakness of the NFC -- the 49ers could well be a playoff team this season. If that happens, the pick would be likely be in the 20s.
