The conference call with Brandon Meriweather wrapped up a couple of minutes ago, and among other things, the 23-year old said he no longer owns a gun, but would not answer when asked why he owned a gun in the first place.

His actions during the brawl with Florida International came because "me emotions got the best of me. I made a bad decision, one I should have thought better of. It's something that won't ever happen again."

Asked how he can help the Patriots on defense, Meriweather said he hasn't thought about it yet -- "right now, I'm just thinking about getting to the team, get in that playbook and helping the team out any way I can."

Meriweather played with both Pats' nose tackle Vince Wilfork and practice squad d-lineman Santonio Holmes at Miami, and said he's looking forward to seeing his friends.
