What's that you say? It's still February? Guess again. Tonight on NESN at 7 p.m., the Red Sox play their exhibition opener against the Twins. Baseball is back, and that means spring . . . figuratively if not literally. Curt Schilling starts for the Sox, and Sean McAdam will take a look at Schilling's situation -- his contract status, and what it bodes for the future -- in tomorrow's Providence Journal and on projo.com. We'll also have a Red Sox Journal tomorrow. As for tonight, check the blog for game results during the course of the evening. There's nothing like baseball to make you forget the cold, but -- all kidding aside -- the boys of winter still have center stage. The Providence College men's basketball team has a key game tonight at South Florida, key because the Friars absolutely have to win to maintain any hope of an NCAA tournament berth. There's no local TV for this one, so check the blog tonight for results. And come back to the Journal and projo.com tomorrow for Kevin McNamara's game story and notebook. The Celtics have been so dismal this season that you may have forgotten -- or want to forget -- that they're still playing, too. But they are, against the Knicks at home tonight. Check out the game on Fox Sports New England, and come to the blog tonight for results. Looking for a high school basketball playoff game tonight? There are plenty of them, all preliminary round games at school sites: Check the blog tonight for scores; we'll post them as soon as we get them. And tomorrow, check projo.com for a slideshow on the Mt. Hope-Chariho girls game. On the college scene, the RIC and Wheaton women's basketball teams both are involved in ECAC tournament games (RIC on the road, Wheaton at home). We'll put the scores on the blog. And in tomorrow's Journal and on projo.com, Bill Reynolds profiles Bryant basketball player Chris Burns. Looking ahead, keep an eye out Friday for high school playoff basketball overviews by Robert Lee (boys) and Carolyn Thornton (girls) heading into the weekend's quarterfinal action. Carolyn is also working on a high school story for Friday's editions; more on that tomorrow. And Bill Reynolds will have a heartwarming story on Brown basketball player Marcus Becker on Sunday. |
